Riza was a grocer in a small town in Persia.<\/p>\n

He worked very hard, but earned only enough to feed his family.<\/p>\n

Riza wasn\u2019t happy. He wanted to earn more. He wanted to be wealthy.<\/p>\n

There also lived a rich landlord in Persia. Kind, the landlord wished to share his wealth with someone who needed his help.<\/p>\n

So, one day, the landlord left his mansion on a horse to look for the person he could give his wealth to.<\/p>\n

\u201cI must look for someone who doesn\u2019t just need my wealth but also deserves it,\u201d he told his wife.<\/p>\n

The landlord\u2019s search took him to Riza\u2019s town, where put on a ragged cloak to sit in a busy street like a hungry beggar.<\/p>\n

He appealed to every passerby for a loaf of bread, but no one paid him any attention.<\/p>\n

Returning home in the evening, Riza noticed the beggar.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you want?\u201d he asked affectionately.<\/p>\n

\u201cA loaf of bread and somewhere to spend the night,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Riza took him home and fed him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can stay here tonight,\u201d said Riza.<\/p>\n

After learning about Riza\u2019s life, the landlord thought his search ended.<\/p>\n

He told Riza he was unable to feed himself.<\/p>\n

Riza promised to bring him food every evening.<\/p>\n

The next day, the landlord returned to his spot in the lane, ready to tell Riza about his wealth. But Riza didn\u2019t turn up.<\/p>\n

The landlord thought something serious must have stopped Riza from keeping his promise. So, he waited for Riza the next day and for many days after. But Riza never returned.<\/p>\n

Curious, the landlord went to look for him.<\/p>\n

Riza was doing business as usual at his shop.<\/p>\n

The landlord asked a friendly man leaving Riza\u2019s store if everything had been alright with Riza.<\/p>\n

The man laughed.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, he is alright. He is just not in the habit of keeping his promises,\u201d said the man.<\/p>\n

The landlord was left disappointed.<\/p>\n

He went to Riza and told him how he waited for him to bring his food.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy did you not keep your promise?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

Riza didn\u2019t seem to have any regrets.<\/p>\n

The landlord told him who he was and how he intended to give half of his wealth to Riza.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I do not think a man who doesn\u2019t keep his promises deserves my wealth. So, I will keep looking until I find someone,\u201d said the landlord, as he walked away from Riza.<\/p>\n

Riza knew he had lost his opportunity. He could only cry at his loss.<\/p>\n
