An old wolf lived on a beautiful hillock. He was the oldest <\/span>in <\/span>the pack he commanded.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a perfect home for all of them. Thick vegetation covered the hillock. <\/span>A<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>t sunrise<\/span>s<\/span> and sunset<\/span>s,<\/span> the land was a sight to behold.<\/span><\/p>\n

The wolves loved their hillock so much that the thought of going to some other place had never crossed their mind. <\/span><\/p>\n

There was nothing to worry about, until a severe drought hit <\/span>one <\/span>summer.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ponds and streams dried up. Animals living on the hillock started migrating to greener areas for food.<\/span><\/p>\n

The wolves didn\u2019t know what to do in such circumstance<\/span>s<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Migrating would mean they would have to give up their home, but staying <\/span>could <\/span>mean starving. <\/span><\/p>\n

The pack was upset. <\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone was waiting for <\/span>the <\/span>things to improve, but <\/span>it kept <\/span>getting worse with each passing day. <\/span><\/p>\n

Food was getting scarce.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then, a meeting of the wolves was called to discuss the problem. <\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone attended the meeting, but the problem of food shortage could not be solved; <\/span>n<\/span>o one knew how to make food available for the pack.<\/span><\/p>\n

They turned to their leader for a solution, but the oldest wolf also didn\u2019t have a clue.<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting ended in disappointment and the wolves dispersed. Considering himself not an able leader, the old wolf left the hillock and walked to a far-off jungle, where he could be in isolation.<\/span><\/p>\n

After walking a long distance, the old wolf felt thirsty and hungry. He saw a coconut shell which contained some water, but as he tried to quench his thirst, <\/span>a monkey <\/span>stopped <\/span>him<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI own the coconut tree from which the shell has fallen. You cannot drink this water unless you give me something in exchange for it,\u201d said the monkey.<\/span><\/p>\n

The old wolf owned nothing except for a few nuts. <\/span>Alt<\/span>hough he was hungry, he decided to <\/span>exchange <\/span>the nuts for the water.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>wolf <\/span>quenched his thirst <\/span>and carried with him whatever was left in the coconut shell.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the wolf had covered several miles, he felt hungry. <\/span><\/p>\n

He saw a fig tree and thought of eating some figs. <\/span><\/p>\n

Before he could eat some, an owl, who owned the tree, stopped him, asking for something in exchange for the fruit.<\/span><\/p>\n

The old wolf instantly gave him his water and took the fruits.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tired of walking, the old wolf stopped to take rest, but all the while he kept thinking of his home and the drought. While he was taking rest, something crossed his mind. He had suddenly found an answer to the problem at home.<\/span><\/p>\n

He immediately rushed home and called a<\/span>nother<\/span> meeting of the wolves.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFriends,\u201d he said. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis hillock has been our home for years and we do not want to leave it. But nothing in life comes for free. When we are thirsty, we sacrifice our food for water. When we are hungry, we sacrifice our water for food. This is wisdom and wise we shall be at this hour.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The wolves understood that they cannot always have both things at a time. <\/span><\/p>\n

They gladly <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>gave up their hillock to find another place where there was enough food for all of them. <\/span><\/p>\n
